Cllr Qaisar Abbas, the 49th Deputy Mayor of Thurrock and Vice Chair of the British-Pakistani Mayors Association UK, recently welcomed Professor Irfan Ahmed Khan, President of the Calligraphic-Artists Guild Pakistan and Head of the Calligraphy Department at Alhamra Arts Council, during his visit to Essex.

During this special meeting, Professor Khan expressed his appreciation for the dedicated community and political contributions of Cllr Abbas. As a gesture of respect and goodwill, he presented the Deputy Mayor with one of his exclusive and intricately designed calligraphic paintings, symbolising a cultural bond between Pakistan and the UK.

On the occasion, Cllr Qaisar Abbas highlighted the vital role that educators and artists play in shaping a nation’s identity and future. He said:

“Educationists and artists hold a key responsibility in guiding and inspiring future generations. Their influence extends far beyond classrooms and galleries — they shape the cultural, intellectual, and creative foundation of society. We are deeply grateful for the remarkable work of Professor Khan, particularly his invaluable services to the field of calligraphy and his contribution to preserving artistic heritage.”

This meaningful interaction not only celebrated Professor Khan’s lifelong dedication to art and education but also underscored the strong connection between cultural values and community leadership in the UK and Pakistan.
