Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Welcomed in Austria on Official Visit

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly received in Vienna on Monday at the start of a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations with Austria.

At the Austrian Federal Chancellery, Prime Minister Sharif was welcomed by Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker, where both leaders exchanged cordial greetings and oversaw a formal guard of honour. The national anthems of Pakistan and Austria were played as part of the official reception ceremony.

During his visit, the two leaders held bilateral talks and delegation-level discussions focused on expanding cooperation in areas including trade, investment, tourism, education, IT, healthcare, and human resource development. Both sides also agreed to work on the early finalisation of several memoranda of understanding to deepen economic and cultural ties.

Prime Minister Sharif and Chancellor Stocker co-chaired a meeting of leading business figures to discuss opportunities for increased commercial engagement. Sharif is also scheduled to address the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum and speak at a special United Nations event in Vienna on “Sustainable Development: The Path to Global Peace and Prosperity”.

The visit, made at Chancellor Stocker’s invitation, marks the first official visit by a Pakistani prime minister to Austria in more than three decades and highlights a renewed effort to elevate bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
