Continuous landslides in the mountainous area of Jhika Gali have created a highly alarming situation, putting both local residents and ongoing development projects at serious risk.

The affected area includes the Jhika Gali Chowk remodelling project, an initiative launched by the Punjab government to improve local infrastructure, which now appears to be under threat from the natural disaster. Over the past several days, persistent ground movement has caused significant damage to residential properties, with deep cracks reported in walls, roofs, and balconies of multiple homes.

In addition, dozens of trees have been uprooted, while nearby roads have become unsafe for traffic due to unstable ground. Reports also indicate that a local mosque has sustained structural damage. Following this, announcements were made through mosque loudspeakers urging residents to evacuate immediately.

Amid growing fear and panic, many families have begun relocating to safer areas. Affected residents warn that if urgent measures are not taken, hundreds more homes could be impacted, potentially leading to a major humanitarian crisis.

Locals have appealed to the government, particularly Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, to take immediate notice of the situation. They are calling for swift action, including land stabilisation efforts, construction of retaining walls, and the implementation of an effective drainage system to prevent further damage and protect lives and property.
