Punjab CM reviews performance, approves reforms, and announces new technology and training measures.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the immediate implementation of body-worn cameras across all field operations of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulator Authority (PERA), marking a major step towards transparent and accountable governance.

The directive was issued while chairing a high-level meeting on PERA’s performance, monitoring mechanisms, and proposed institutional reforms. Officials briefed the Chief Minister on the operational challenges and current enforcement practices, following which several important decisions were approved.

According to the Chief Minister, there will be zero tolerance for bribery, misconduct, or abuse of authority within the PERA Force. She emphasised that mandatory use of body cams will help ensure fair enforcement and restore public confidence.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif further instructed that the installation of body-worn cameras be completed at the earliest, noting that enhanced oversight would strengthen both transparency and service delivery.

To improve operational capacity, the Chief Minister also announced specialised training programs for PERA personnel, along with the induction of electric vehicles into the fleet to offer citizens a faster, safer, and environmentally friendly service. She additionally granted in-principle approval for the establishment of a state-of-the-art PERA Training Centre, aimed at modernizing professional development standards within the force.

Addressing PERA officials, Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed that the enforcement of law must be ensured “under all circumstances,” and she urged officers to maintain polite, respectful, and citizen-friendly conduct in every interaction. While acknowledging that PERA is performing well, she encouraged the force to strive for even better results and work towards earning greater public goodwill.

“Those who create ease and provide service to the public are always remembered by history,” the Chief Minister remarked, urging PERA personnel to adopt a people-centric approach in their duties.
