England have made a dominant start to their three-match Test series against Pakistan, taking control of the opening Test at Headingley in Leeds.

Pakistan were bowled out for just 171 on the first day, with England fast bowlers Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue taking five wickets each. Abdullah Shafique top-scored for Pakistan with 61.

England then strengthened their position with the bat on day two. Harry Brook struck 91 from 93 balls, while Joe Root made 66 and Jordan Cox scored 73. Dan Lawrence also contributed 51 as England reached 366-8, giving them a 195-run first-innings lead.

The series marks a new era for England Test cricket, with Joe Root returning as captain following Ben Stokes’ retirement. Pakistan have also been without Babar Azam for the opening Test because of a hand injury.

The second Test is scheduled to begin at Lord’s on August 27, followed by the third Test at Edgbaston from September 9.
