Asian Development Bank Announces $3 Million Emergency Grant for Pakistan Flood Relief

Islamabad / Manila (Agencies):

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $3 million emergency grant to support the Government of Pakistan’s immediate relief efforts in response to the widespread flooding across the country.

This grant complements ongoing funding arrangements under ADB’s broader flood assistance initiative, aimed at bolstering emergency response, risk management, and rehabilitation of critically impacted infrastructure and communities.

As part of its comprehensive commitment, ADB previously approved a $554 million financing package to aid in long-term recovery, including a $475 million concessional loan, the $3 million technical assistance grant (now being allocated), and a $5 million grant from Japan. This financing supports the reconstruction of roads, irrigation systems, drainage networks, and flood risk infrastructure across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.

The newly approved grant is intended to accelerate emergency relief operations, enabling the swift mobilization of resources and technical support where most urgently needed.

This aid underscores ADB’s commitment—under its Country Partnership Strategy 2021–2025—to assist Pakistan in building resilience and recovering from natural disasters, particularly in the context of increasing climate-related risks.
