Arshad Nadeem, Neeraj Chopra Set for High-Stakes Clash at World Athletics Championships
India and Pakistan are set to lock horns on the global stage once again, but this time in athletics as Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and Paris Olympics silver medalist Arshad Nadeem prepare to compete in the javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. This marks their first meeting since heightened tensions between the two nations earlier this year.
Arshad, who recently claimed the Asian Athletics Championship title in South Korea, said he has trained hard and is determined to make Pakistan proud once again, urging fans to remember him in their prayers. The qualifying round will be held on Wednesday at 4:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time, with the top eight throwers advancing to Thursday’s final.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra enters the championship in peak form, having set a national record with a 90.23m throw in Doha, alongside wins in Paris, Ostrava, and Bengaluru. With Germany’s Julian Weber and other world-class athletes also in the mix, the Tokyo event promises an electrifying contest between two of South Asia’s biggest sporting icons.

I hope this situation does not lead to Neeraj Chopra considering a boycott simply because Nadeem is Pakistani.
