France Formally Recognises Palestine at UN General Assembly
French President Emmanuel Macron announced today that France now officially recognises the State of Palestine, marking a historic shift in Paris’s foreign policy. Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, Macron declared that the decision reflects France’s commitment to a two-state solution and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The recognition, while largely symbolic, signals strong political support for Palestinian statehood and places France among a growing number of European nations taking similar steps. Macron emphasised that peace can only be achieved through mutual recognition and dialogue, calling for an immediate ceasefire and renewed efforts toward negotiations.
France’s move is expected to intensify diplomatic pressure on Israel and its allies, while offering the Palestinian leadership a significant boost in international legitimacy.
