London’s Heathrow Airport briefly evacuated Terminal 4 on Monday evening after reports of a possible hazardous materials incident. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but investigators later confirmed that no trace of any adverse substance was found.
The alert was raised at around 4:56 pm, prompting a swift response from the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, and London Ambulance Service. As a precaution, Terminal 4 was fully evacuated, train services to the terminal were suspended, and departing flights were temporarily halted.
According to officials, around 21 people required medical treatment, with one taken to hospital and the rest assessed and discharged at the scene. None of the injuries were serious or life-threatening.
By 8 pm, safety checks were complete and the terminal was declared safe to reopen. Heathrow Airport apologised to passengers for the disruption, assuring that safety remained the top priority and that efforts were underway to restore normal operations.
While the cause of the incident is still being reviewed, authorities confirmed there was no evidence of any hazardous substance at the site. Some reports suggest the situation may have escalated due to panic among passengers rather than a chemical threat.
