Tension, Triumphs & Drama in Javelin Qualifiers
The men’s javelin qualification round at the World Athletics Championships delivered a mix of dominance, drama, and narrow escapes as twelve throwers booked their places in tomorrow’s final.
Neeraj Chopra (India), the defending world champion, made a statement right off the bat. He needed just one throw to qualify, launching his javelin 84.85m, clearing the automatic mark of 84.50m and promptly ending his qualifying round.
Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan), in contrast, had a far more nerve-wracking journey. His first two throws – 76.99m and 74.17m – were comfortably short of qualification. But in his final attempt, he surged to 85.28m, not only exceeding the automatic mark but also rescuing his place in the final in dramatic fashion.
India’s Sachin Yadav also made it through. He didn’t reach the automatic mark but secured a top-12 finish with a best throw of 83.67m, comfortably enough to join the finalists.
Several others produced standout performances:
Anderson Peters (Grenada) led the field with an enormous throw of 89.53m in his qualifier. Julian Weber (Germany) also impressed, as did Julius Yego (Kenya) and Dawid Wegner (Poland).
Meanwhile, India’s Yash Vir Singh and Rohit Yadav fell short of qualifying, despite strong efforts.
