Pakistan Knock Over South Africa by 93 runs in Emphatic Test Win

Lahore, 15 October 2025 — Pakistan clinched a commanding 93-run victory over South Africa in the first Test of their two-match series at Gaddafi Stadium, largely thanks to a match haul of ten wickets by spinner Noman Ali.

After posting 378 in their first innings, Pakistan dismissed South Africa for 269. In their second innings, Pakistan were bundled out for 167, setting the visitors a target of 277. South Africa faltered in the chase, folding for 183, with Noman Ali starring again and pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi closing the game with the final blows.

South African batsman Tony de Zorzi stood out with a gritty 104, but lacked support as the home side’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure.

Captain Shan Masood emphasised the importance of consistency moving forward, citing concerns over Pakistan’s repeated middle-order collapses. He noted the team lost 11 wickets for just 37 runs across both innings. Pakistan coach Azhar Mahmood criticised shot selection and urged more patience on turning, low-bounce wickets likely to feature in Rawalpindi.

The win halts South Africa’s streak of ten consecutive Test victories and boosts Pakistan’s position in the World Test Championship standings, even leapfrogging India in the table.

The two sides next meet in the second Test in Rawalpindi, beginning Monday.
