Major Political Setback for PTI as ECP Declares All PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council Members Independent

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has suffered a major political blow as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), acting on the Supreme Court’s ruling of August 25, 2025, has declared all PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) members of the assemblies as independent candidates.

Following this decision, significant changes have been made to the party positions in the National and Provincial Assemblies including the National Assembly, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh Assemblies with new official lists now issued.

According to the ECP, after the Supreme Court’s decision, no member of any assembly will be officially affiliated with either PTI or the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Political analysts are calling this a major setback for PTI, as the move is expected to bring substantial changes to the parliamentary landscape across Pakistan.
