Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the rape of a woman in her 20s in what is being treated as a racially aggravated attack in Walsall.

The suspect was detained early this morning, just before 7am, in the Perry Barr area on suspicion of rape. He is now being questioned over the assault, which took place in the Park Hall area of Walsall on Saturday night.

Detective Superintendent Ronan Tyrer from the Public Protection Unit described the arrest as a “significant development” in the investigation and thanked members of the public for their assistance following last night’s appeal for information.

“Our investigation will progress today, and, as always, our priority is the woman who was the subject of this attack,” he said. “She has been updated this morning and will continue to receive full support from specially trained officers.”

Police are continuing to appeal for information and urge anyone who may have relevant details, CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log 4027 of 25 October, or submit footage through the dedicated online portal.
