Pakistan has successfully launched its second locally developed Earth observation satellite, EO-2, marking a major achievement in the nation’s space programme.

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced that the EO-2 satellite was launched from China’s Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre aboard a Smart Dragon-3 carrier rocket, placing the satellite into its designated orbit.

Designed for enhanced Earth observation, EO-2 will significantly improve Pakistan’s imaging and remote sensing capabilities. The satellite is expected to deliver high-resolution data that will aid in urban and regional planning, natural resource management, disaster monitoring, and strategic decision-making across multiple sectors.

Officials from SUPARCO described the successful launch as a symbol of Pakistan’s growing expertise in space technology, highlighting the country’s focus on building indigenous capabilities in satellite design and data acquisition.

With EO-2 now in orbit, Pakistan’s satellite fleet has expanded, improving the continuity, coverage, and accuracy of Earth observation data available for national use. Experts say the addition of this satellite will strengthen the nation’s capacity for evidence-based planning and efficient resource management.
