Albania’s appointment of the world’s first artificial intelligence–based minister is being hailed as a revolutionary step in the field of technology, with the potential to bring transparency, speed, and data-driven policymaking into government decisions.
On the positive side, such an initiative could ensure that policies are shaped beyond personal interests, grounded in facts and figures, reducing corruption and improving public services.
However, there are notable concerns as well the most significant being that an AI minister may lack the ability to fully grasp human emotions, social values, and ethical dimensions, which could lead to decisions that fail to align with public sentiment or sensitive social issues.
Additionally, there is the risk that powerful institutions or technology providers could manipulate the system, potentially undermining a nation’s sovereignty.
