Clashing Chants in London: Shehbaz Sharif Meets Overseas Pakistanis as PTI Protest Led by Shehzad Akbar Unfolds Outside

In London today (20th of September 2025), Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in London today and is scheduled to address the Overseas Pakistanis Forum in Mayfair. As the event gets underway, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, led by former accountability chief Shehzad Akbar, have gathered outside the venue to stage a protest.

The atmosphere in Mayfair is tense, with rival groups of Pakistanis assembling both inside and outside the hotel. Supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have brought banners featuring Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistan’s Army Chief, underscoring their backing of the government and its allies.

On the other side, PTI workers are waving placards of Imran Khan and chanting slogans against the Prime Minister and Pakistan’s military leadership. Organizers from PTI say their demonstration is meant to highlight what they describe as political victimization of their party members in Pakistan.

London police are present around the Mayfair venue to ensure order as both groups rally for their cause. The event is expected to showcase the stark political divisions within the Pakistani diaspora in the UK.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere outside was markedly different. PTI supporters, holding placards bearing the image of Imran Khan, chanted slogans against Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership. Their protest, led by Shehzad Akbar, was aimed at condemning what they described as political victimisation of PTI leaders and supporters back in Pakistan.
