Barrister Amjad Malik highlights Lahore’s cultural revival and tourism growth; journalists call for greater recognition and protection of the media community.
A delegation of journalists led by senior journalist and London Media Cricket Club team manager Tahir Chaudhry, along with team captain Ghulam Hussain Awan, met Vice Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab, Barrister Amjad Malik, at the Commission’s office in Lahore.
Barrister Amjad Malik warmly welcomed Ghulam Hussain Awan and the visiting delegation on their arrival in Lahore. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed optimism about Lahore’s bright future and praised the vision and leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He said that the revival and organisation of cultural festivals such as Basant have helped position Lahore as an important international tourist destination.

He noted that the success of these events is evident from the unavailability of hotel rooms, the generation of business worth billions of rupees, and the direct economic benefits reaching ordinary citizens. According to him, the city currently presents the atmosphere of a grand festival, and international journalists have a crucial role in projecting Pakistan’s positive image to the world.
Senior journalist Tahir Chaudhry appreciated the people-friendly initiatives undertaken by the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. He acknowledged the Commission’s efforts in addressing public issues, particularly those faced by overseas Pakistanis.
Representing the journalists, Ghulam Hussain Awan emphasised that the legitimate demands and concerns of journalists should be heard and addressed on a priority basis. He said journalists serve as frontline workers in society and deserve due respect, recognition, and protection commensurate with their role.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Barrister Amjad Malik presented the delegation with a souvenir of the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab and distributed honorary shields and gifts to the journalists.

The delegation included Ghulam Hussain Awan, Tahir Chaudhry, Ghulam Abbas Awan, Raja Khawar, Dr. Farakhanda, Shamaila Siddiqui, Amanat Ali Anjum, Azhar Abbasi, Mohsin Jafri, Ghufran Ashraf, Yasir Abbas, Sajid Aziz, Nasir Iqbal, Masarrat Iqbal, Saleem Sabri, Naseer Ahmed, Ameer Khan, and Abid Akram.
