Pakistan–Italy Agree on Security Cooperation and 10,500 Work Visas

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a key meeting with his Italian counterpart Matteo Piantedosi in Rome, focusing on internal security cooperation, prevention of illegal immigration, and promotion of legal migration between Pakistan and Italy.

During the meeting, Italy announced the issuance of 10,500 work visas for Pakistan’s skilled workforce to promote legal migration pathways. Both sides also discussed enhanced collaboration against human trafficking, drug smuggling, and terrorism.

Italian authorities agreed to grant visa exemption for holders of Pakistani diplomatic passports, following a request by Minister Naqvi. The development is seen as a positive step toward strengthening bilateral diplomatic ties.

Minister Naqvi briefed the Italian side on Pakistan’s measures to curb illegal immigration, highlighting stricter monitoring at airports and maritime borders. The Italian Interior Minister appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and policy framework in tackling irregular migration and organized crime.

Officials from Punjab Police also gave a presentation on the Police Khidmat Markaz (Police Service Centers Global), which was well received. The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Italy Ali Javed, senior representatives from the Federal Investigation Agency, and the Punjab Safe City Authority, along with other officials.

The meeting reflects growing cooperation between the two countries in areas of mutual interest, particularly security and regulated labor mobility.
