Afghanistan Withdraws from Tri-Nation T20 Series After Alleged Pakistani Strike Kills Three Afghan Cricketers

KABUL – Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has accused Pakistan of carrying out an attack in the Argun district of Paktika province, which reportedly killed three Afghan cricketers Kabir, Sibghatullah, and Haroon along with two other individuals, and left seven others injured.

Following the incident, the ACB announced its withdrawal from the upcoming tri-nation T20 series scheduled to take place in Pakistan next month.

According to the board, the players were returning to Argun from the provincial capital, Sharan, after participating in a friendly match when they were allegedly targeted during a public gathering.

In a statement, the ACB expressed “deep sorrow and regret,” describing the deceased as “brave cricketers” who had represented their country and communities with pride.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani government and military have not yet issued an official statement regarding the allegations, and independent sources have not confirmed the incident.

In the aftermath of the attack, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, former captain Mohammad Nabi, and several other players strongly condemned the assault and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
