Israel carried out a precision strike in Doha, Qatar, today, targeting senior Hamas leaders as ceasefire negotiations were in progress. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, identifying the intended targets as Khalil al-Hayya, Zaher Jabarin, and Khaled Mashal. Witnesses reported explosions near the Legtifya district, close to a heavily guarded residential area.
The incident has heightened regional tensions, as Qatar has been playing a central role as mediator in the peace discussions between Israel and Hamas. The Qatari authorities denounced the strike as a “cowardly act” that violates international law, cautioning that it could destabilise the region further.
In response, the U.S. Embassy in Doha issued a shelter-in-place advisory for American citizens, while other nations, including the UAE, voiced support for Qatar. This strike marks a continuation of Israeli military actions beyond Gaza, following similar operations in Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and Yemen targeting Hamas-affiliated groups.
Analysts warn that the attack could complicate the ongoing ceasefire talks and exacerbate tensions in an already fragile situation. Global leaders are closely monitoring developments, expressing concern over the risk of escalation.
